Ashley Hemmings bagged his 15th goal of the Vanarama National League North campaign at the weekend and admitted that he had smashed his own goalscoring target for the season.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers trainee, who arrived from Mansfield Town last summer, struck Boston United’s second goal in their 2-1 win at Darlington on Saturday. His haul of goals includes 11 penalties and Hemmings says that reaching double figures was his initial target when he joined the Pilgrims.

“My target was to score 10, so I have gone past that and I have been glad to get among the goals this year,” said Hemmings in the aftermath of Saturday’s victory in the north-east.

“I know the penalties have dried up but I am pleased to be getting goals from open play too. Goals and assists keep my confidence up but as long as we get three points each week, that is all that matters.”
