Ryman League South club Hastings United have announced that AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook has become an ambassador for the Ryman South club’s academy.

The 25-year-old defender was born locally and went to school near the Pilot Field.cook

Academy Director Dean White believes that having Cook join the club in his new role will “help us make a difference in Hastings for the benefit of everyone moving forward”

He said: “Having Steve on board in an ambassadorial role is brilliant. As well as wanting to raise our profile, he is passionate about local football and is keen to help us make a difference in Hastings for the benefit of everyone moving forward.”

Cherries star Cook commented “I am proud to be involved in the academy at Hastings United. The work that is being carried out in the community to try and give young footballers a pathway through sport and education is fantastic.

“I have known Dean White (Academy Director) for a long time. He was assistant first team manager when I was coming through the ranks at Brighton and gave me my senior debut against Manchester City.

“I have no doubt that with his direction and along with his team of coaches they will create an environment that will enable talented young local footballers to flourish.”

It has been a successful season for the club’s academy, with no fewer than nine academy products making the step-up to first team football.
