Oli Johnson tucked away a penalty in both of Bradford (Park Avenue)’s excellent Bank Holiday victories over Hereford and Boston United, but manager Mark Bower is convinced that the experienced forward can offer the side even more.

Johnson’s goals took his tally to three in seven Vanarama National League North games this season and the Avenue boss hopes a regular run of games will see him become a key figure in the club’s promotion battle.

Bower said: “Oli was missing at times through suspension last season and he’s always struggled with getting regular games in the past.

“You could see he was getting stronger by the end of last season though and three in seven games this year is decent going from out wide.

“Unfortunately he missed most of pre-season and he knows he can improve to get up to match speed. I’m pleased with his start but there’s more to come from him in terms of scoring and creating chances.”
