Bromley are shocked and saddened to hear the news that one of the two people tragically killed in the incident in Penge, South London earlier this week was a member of their club.

A car that was being pursued by police mounted the pavement and crashed into pedestrians and a woman and a boy were killed – the boy being a member of Bromley`s under-11 squad, Makayah McDermott.

Makayah and his Aunt, Rosie Cooper, sadly lost their lives in the incident. Bromley understand that Makayah’s twin sisters and his cousin sustained serious injuries. All thoughts are very much with Makayah’s parents, Omar and Danielle, and the rest of the family at this time.

Makayah was a popular boy with a beaming smile that nobody can forget. Having been at the club since 2014, many Bromley players will have known him. Many families from the junior section will also remember Makayah and his family from the Great Yarmouth tour in April.

As a club, Bromley will be offering its condolences and support to the family. Over the coming days the club will be considering how to mark Makayah’s passing and honour his memory, which will mean some emotional times as all pay their respects.
