As the club pushes for promotion to the North West Counties League and semi-professional football, Wythenshawe Town have announced the introduction of a new management team ‘to secure long-term growth and continuity.’
The club outlined their appointments and overall plan with the following statement:
Working as a duo, the club’s new first-team managers are Garry Brown, who brings his wealth of experience managing and coaching football across leagues including the GALAXY, Manchester, Cheshire, NWCL and EVO-STIK leagues, and David Potter, who also brings management experience from the Cheshire and NWCL leagues.
On the coaching side, Dave Williams, with his UEFA B Level 3 coaching and over sixteen years’ experience, has coached at professional level for Bristol City, Stoke City and Exeter City. He brings links with professional clubs and academies across the country and has successfully developed over 100 players, who now compete at professional level. Meanwhile, Ben Shawcross, the former Wythenshawe Town captain for the 2015/16 season, with his UEFA B licence, will assist with a high-quality coaching programme ready for the next level.
With a firm belief in player development, this management team has a history of providing a platform to push players up the leagues as far as they can go. And bringing more links to professional clubs, on top of our working partnership with Fleetwood Town, there will be even greater opportunity for ambitious, hard-working players to reach a level they aspire to.
For those who remember the 2014/15 season when our first team earned the name ‘The Invincibles’ and received national press coverage for their record unbeaten season, winning every league and Cup game, putting the club on the football map – Garry Brown featured in Lee McGregor’s management team. Garry returns to develop the current first team squad and instil a level of conditioning and professionalism to not only form a strong bond and winning team mentality, much like that of a few seasons ago, but also prepare the squad for the next level at Step 6, and semi-professional football.
Garry, Dave and the coaches are looking forward to being part of a new chapter here at Wythenshawe Town, Garry explains, “It feels great to be back at Wythenshawe Town FC and we are keen to get started on working with the squad. Player development is of the essence to ensure future success for this fantastic community football club that has put in a tremendous amount of work to prepare for the step up to North West Counties football, priding itself on being able to provide a facility for all age groups to play football in the area.”
Chairman Kenny Hope says, “I am thrilled Garry and Dave have agreed to join us. As well as help strengthen the players we have and introduce new members to the team, they bring a professionalism and knowledge that will give us the continuity we are looking for. And following on from the recent introduction of our elite academy, Wythenshawe Town Football Club is looking forward to a very exciting future, promising quality football, ambition and aspiration for all.”
