Bury FC’s phoenix club, Bury AFC, have organised a fundraising legends match with Chester FC.
Bury AFC have applied to begin play in next season’s North West Counties Football League, and this match, which is to be hosted by Chester, is a fundraiser for both clubs. It is a decade since the old Chester City were liquidated and subsequently reformed as today’s Chester FC.
The game is to take place on Friday 15th May, and the squads will be revealed in the forthcoming days and weeks. Chester joint-manager Anthony Johnson is a Bury supporter, and Jeff Banks, co-organiser of the event and the club’s director of fan engagement said: “This is going to be a very special night. At the turn of the year, I wanted to really stage an event for us to celebrate everything we have been through, from the rise of the phoenix in 2010, through to the current day, and no matter what happens at the end of the season, we’ve all been on a journey we can be proud of.
“This is every Chester fan’s chance to really celebrate what we’ve achieved here and in fan ownership in general as we stand together with Bury fans to help their plans.”
