Buxton manager Paul Phillips has resigned.

A 2-0 defeat at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday was the end of Phillips’ tenure, with the Bucks 20th in the BetVictor Northern Premier League Premier Division. Phillips, who played for Buxton as a young goalkeeper, arrived as joint-manager with Steve Halford last March, but Halford would depart this February.

The Silverlands side went on to make the play-offs, ultimately losing 4-2 at South Shields in the league’s semi-final tie.

Chairman David Hopkins said: “The board and I are sad to see Paul leave the club. He has been totally committed to the cause and incredibly hard-working, not only with the first team but also with our newly-formed academy.

“We part on the best of terms and wish Paul every success in his ongoing football career.”
