Manager Danny Heale continues to reshape his squad with the signing of 23-year old central midfielder Merrick James-Lewis from fellow Ryman Premier League club Merstham.
Merrick was an apprentice at Fulham before joining the Southend United youth system, earning a professional deal in 2010 and playing in the Football League for the Blues.
After loan spells with clubs including Braintree Town and Bishop’s Stortford he was released by Southend and signed for Essex-rivals Colchester United.
He has since played for a host of clubs including Ebbsfleet United, Staines Town, Grays Athletic and most recently Merstham where he played against the Gulls back in November. He also made one appearance for Canvey away to Lowestoft Town in the 2012/13 season.
Merrick will be available for selection on Saturday when we welcome Tonbridge Angels to The Frost Financial Stadium, kick off at 15:00.
