Chelmsford City have retained captain Anthony Church for the upcoming 2017/18 season.

The Clarets released their retained list earlier in the week, and City have now completed negotiations to keep skipper Anthony Church with the Club ahead of the upcoming pre-season campaign.

Church made 43 appearances for the Essex side in all competitions last season, playing an instrumental role as City reached their first play-off promotion final.

City boss Rod Stringer brought Church to the Melbourne Community Stadium at the beginning of his first season, but it was the former Grimsby midfielder’s second spell with the Club.

Speaking after having it confirmed that he would be retained, Church stated: “[I’m] very pleased to get it all sorted, I really enjoyed last season personally and with the group of players and feel ready to go one better this season.

“We have had some big players leave but I’m sure the lads coming in will add their own strengths to the team and buy into what we were close to achieving last season.

“It was extremely disappointing in how the season finished, but the lads who experienced that will know that we don’t want that feeling again. So we should use that in a positive way to push us forward this season.

“The objective from last season doesn’t change and hopefully as a core group that have been together for a year we will be better placed this season.”
