John Pemberton spoke to the media for the first time on Friday since being appointed as caretaker manager of Chesterfield and began by explaining that the opportunity to come back to the club was too good to turn down.

“When I got the phone call about if I wanted to come and help out, I jumped at the chance,” he said. “It’s a club I know and this time last year we were in the same position.”

“It’s a tough situation but one I’m not frightened of dealing with. I had a chat with some of the players this morning to get a feel of them.

“We’ll try to assess what the problems have been and then try to come up with a formula to try and right those wrongs. I’ve been in this position here and at other clubs so I’ve just got to roll my sleeves up and turn things around.”
