Basford United travel to National League side Chesterfield in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday 15th (3pm).

This is the furthest Basford have ever been in the competition and is perhaps their biggest game in recent times.
Chesterfield have only managed one win in their last 20 league games and it came last Saturday when they caused an upset against second placed Salford City, winning 2-0 at The Proact.

Basford manager Martin Carruthers is focused on the tie and the occasion: “I along with the whole club are really excited about the game against Chesterfield this Saturday. It just shows how far we have come to be pitting our wits against a club the size of Chesterfield!

“This is an amazing opportunity for everyone involved with the club and these are the games that I aspire to be involved in week in and week out.  To be going up against Martin Allen, a top manager, is an exciting challenge and it will be great to test myself at this level and hopefully I will learn lots about the team and myself on the day.

“We are massive underdogs but it’s only a game of 90 minutes and if they have a bad day and we are exceptional then we have to believe we can achieve the impossible.”

The winner of the tie will receive £6000 and the second round of the competition will be played on Saturday 12th January 2019.
