Carshalton Athletic have moved to secure the services of another young talent this week, writes James Barrett-Sterling.
Ernold Haxhiu, who has appeared in every game so far after impressing club officials during pre-season, has agreed to remain a Robin for the rest of this season. The deal also includes an option to extend into the 2020/21 season.
The 18-year old midfielder had been a part of Leyton Orient’s youth set-up for four years and had also played for the likes of Cambridge United and Enfield Town before ending up at Colston Avenue.
“I’m happy to stay at Carshalton and I hope to keep helping the club improve,” said Haxhiu after signing.
“I’ve been made to feel really welcome here and the vibe in the changing room is good, which is now starting to transfer on the pitch.
“I knew the club had been recently promoted and almost did it again last season. Peter (Adeniyi, manager) and Keith (Boanas, head coach) want to play the kind of football I like and this squad is capable of challenging for trophies.”
Haxhiu has now started the last six Carshalton matches, of which they have won five in a row, and he even grabbed his first goal during the 3-2 win against Corinthian Casuals last month.
Robins player/manager Peter Adeniyi also expressed his happiness at this deal being completed.
“We are absolutely delighted Ernold has agreed to sign with us,” he said. “His performances over the six games have been brilliant and we know there is still more to come.
“His attitude and conduct has been first class from the first day he arrived and we hope he can help the team have a productive and successful season.”
This is another example of Carshalton investing in youth as Haxhiu joins homegrown talent like Tommy Bradford, Paris Hamilton-Downes, Ricky Korboa and Bobby Price on a long-term contract.
Next up for Carshalton Athletic is a home game against AFC Hornchurch on Saturday 14th September (kick-off 3pm).
