On the day the Forest Green Rovers squad kick started preparations for the new season at the first day of pre-season training, it has been confirmed that Darren Carter has signed a new one-year deal to remain with the club.
An ever present after joining in September of last season, the former top flight midfielder has extended his stay for the forthcoming campaign.
He made 39 appearances in all competitions last season and found the back of the net on eight occasions – scoring in important clashes against the likes of Torquay, Cheltenham and Wrexham.
The 32 year old brings significant experience to Mark Cooper’s squad. Having played in the Premier League for Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion, he can also boast of time spent with the likes of Sunderland, Millwall and Preston North End.
Carter returned to training alongside the rest of the squad today at the club’s training base at the Royal Agricultural University, with FGR’s pre-season opener against Southern League outfit Evesham United at the Jubilee Stadium on Thursday 7 July now eight days away.
