Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club Corby Town have been handed a £10,000 cash boost after winning the Marathonet Non-League Challenge.

Over the past 6 months Marathonbet have been searching for the best goal celebration in non-league football.

Over forty entries were cut down to ten by former Arsenal duo Ray Parlour and Nigel Winterburn, with supporters voting for their favourite celebration from their shortlist.150x150px NLDaily

And it was the Steelmen’s Jason Lee that came out on top after he celebrated Ben Milnes’ winner in their 1-0 win against Mickleover Sports in February.

Lee caught the attention of the national media by drinking a supporter’s pint of cider as he joined his team mates to celebrate the winning goal.

At the time he told BBC Sport “”After the goal was scored we all went off to celebrate with Ben, but a fan had spilled his pint, and another fan had thrown his pint up in the air,”

“Everyone was celebrating, everyone was drenched, but I didn’t want the spilled pint to go to waste so I just thought I’d have a cheeky sip.

“I got busted, caught out by the photographer. Everyone within the five-metre radius thought it was funny. I thought I was just going to get a kick out of making those guys laugh, and now it’s gone viral.”

“I thought it was going to be a lager, took a big swig, to find out it was a cider. I thought ‘I can’t stop here’ so carried on,” the centre-back added.

“But with about 10 or 15 minutes to go I got severe heartburn. Although it tasted nice and refreshing at the time, I just wouldn’t recommend it for elite athletes.”

Lee’s effort won the Steelmen £10,000 and they will host a friendly against a Premier League Legends side featuring the likes of Sol Campbell, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Ian Harte and Emile Heskey.

Last season it was Wealdstone that took the honours in the first ever Marathonbet Non-League challenge and they hosts a Premier League legends side containing the likes of Dion Dublin, Matt Holland and Darren Anderton.
