Stalybridge Celtic have announced that Jack Higgins has signed for National League newcomers York City for an undisclosed fee.
Higgins was only with Celtic for one season, but made a huge impact both in defence and attack. He also had a fantastic attitude that will carry him far in life.
Higgins had been a stalwart in the back four for Ashton United, not only becoming their player of the year for 2015, but also voted the best centre-back of the year in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.
He started out at Crewe Alexandra and has also played for Boston United, Rushden & Diamonds, Rossendale United and Clitheroe.
Whilst on at Diamonds he was frequently sent out on loan, playing for Daventry Town, Billericay Town and Hemel Hemsptead Town.
Celtic`s Rob Gorski said: “When I was approached, I told York that we were not interested in selling Jack, but firstly they increased their bid and also it is a really wonderful opportunity for Jack to create a career as a full time footballer.
“Jack knows that he will always be welcome back at Bower Fold and he will be appearing again as we shall be playing York City on Saturday, 16th July in a pre-season friendly where Jack can get to say a proper goodbye to us all.”
