Widnes have completed the signing of former St Helens Town, Marine and Skelmersdale United talisman Chad Whyte.
Whyte – a striker by trade – joins Joey Dunn’s side ahead of Tuesday’s Hallmark Security League First Division trip to Charnock Richard.
Chad was a prolific marksman for St Helens, which earned him a move to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Marine in February 2015. After an 18-month spell with the Crosby-based outfit, Chad signed for Skelmersdale in November 2016.
Manager Joey Dunn said on the signing: “I’m really happy to be able to bring in someone of Chad’s quality at such an important stage of the season.
“He brings a real attacking threat in the box and has a proven track record, playing with Marine and Skelmersdale in the Evo-Stik Premier recently.
“He’s trained with us for a couple of weeks and he will provide strength in-depth for the last third of the season.
“He is really looking forward to getting out on the pitch, scoring goals and contributing to what we hope will be a successful season.
“He’s got the right mentality and the coolness in his finishing is something that will prove invaluable in the next three months or so.”
Speaking after completing his move to the Club, Chad spoke of his excitement at the challenge ahead of him as he joins up with the rest of the squad.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to the remaining months of the season and the challenge ahead.
“Having trained with the lads and watched them play, I know that this team creates chances.
“If I can get myself into the side, I’m more than confident that I can grab a few goals that can help propel the lads towards promotion come May.”
