Ashley Chambers was full of smiles after netting a stoppage time winner to give Nuneaton Town their first three points of the season against Kidderminster Harriers.
But the talented front-man was quick to praise the rest of the team as we put in a performance full of positives against last season’s play-off finalists.
“We grafted all night and in the end it’s probably what we deserved,” he admitted. “ To get the winning goal in the last minute makes it a bit sweeter.
“I’m just really chuffed for the lads; we’ve worked really hard and we’ve got our just rewards in the end.
“When I got in there I just knew he [Callum Ball] was going to put it in that sort of area. I managed to make good contact and the ball has hit the back of the net!
“It was a great feeling – it don’t get much better than scoring a last-minute winner.”
Chambers was also full of praise for the Boro support.
“The noise is probably the best since I’ve been here,” he continued. “When the goal went in you could hear the stadium erupt.
“It was just the reaction that we needed. We came out with determination and managed to carry it on for the full 90 minutes to get a great result against a good side.
“We need to take this momentum on now and build on it to see where it can take us. We’re back at home on Saturday and we need to continue in the same vein to ensure that it wasn’t just a one-off.”
