Ben Dempsey is far from daunted by the challenge of joining Woking on a one-month loan from Charlton Athletic and is “buzzing” to get going with his new club, starting at Notts County, tomorrow.
The cultured 20-year-old midfielder has played a total of just 17 matches in senior football – although significantly, four of those have come in the Championship for The Addicks this season, including a start against league leaders West Bromwich Albion in January.
Now he joins a Cards side who will be attempting to end a dismal run of seven straight away defeats – six in the National League – as Alan Dowson’s 12th-placed outfit head to Meadow Lane without top scorer Jake Hyde who injured a calf in the mud at Eastleigh and hopes to be back for the home game with Stockport County (February 22).
He previously enjoyed loan spells at Kingstonian (Isthmian League Premier Division) and Dulwich Hamlet (National League South), and he explained his move, saying: “It came about pretty quickly really. I was on the training ground and Jason Euell, the U23s gaffer, just came up to me and said ‘there’s an opportunity for you to go if you want’ and I said ‘yes’.
“It was completely out of the blue. It was all sorted and it was just down to me.
“I wanted to come down and get some games.”
