Chelmsford City are on the hunt for a new striker after Charlie Sheringham’s return to Dartford.
The 32-year-old was recently with the Clarets on loan but made a sensational return to the Darts against Billericay Town.
Sheringham scored all three in a 3-0 victory, and Chelmsford manager Robbie Simpson told the club’s website:
“We were really hopeful that Charlie would remain with us and we remained hopeful probably until he got named in the team!
“Charlie and Dartford had a conversation after he arrived at the stadium for the game. He’s contracted to Dartford so he turned up. I think they’ve been struggling to score as many goals as they would have liked, and they told Charlie that ‘you’ve been scoring and you’re in form, so you’re going to be playing and you’re going to be with us’.
“Then he goes and scores a hat-trick! So they’re probably really pleased and we’re really disappointed, but that’s how tight it can get in football sometimes.”
