Chester FC have confirmed that defender and captain John McCombe has departed the club.
The side currently sit in the relegation zone in the Vanarama National League, four points from safety, with the extent of their financial struggles revealed in late-January. A figure of £50,000 was reported as a short-term necessity for the club to keep going, and fundraising efforts have been going extremely well, though their need for cash extends further than that initial target.
The 32-year-old Huddersfield Town, Port Vale and York City man McCombe joined last summer following his release from Macclesfield Town and was handed the captaincy for the campaign. He made 24 appearances for the club.
