Chesterfield boss Martin Allen has provided an update on his search for a new striker, dismissing any suggestions that deals have fallen through due to financial reasons.
In an interview with Spireites Digital, Allen said: “I’m sure that all the supporters are a little bit quizzical, wondering what’s going to happen. Someone said that we’d been criticised for not offering enough money but that’s completely not the case.
“It’s been quite the opposite. My bosses have done more than I could have ever imagined, financially, this summer to re-build this team.
“I had another centre-forward come up this week, but he didn’t want to move up here, so that one has fallen through. His wife and two kids wanted to stay down south, which was a shame because he was another good player.
“He’s from a Division One club so we’re aiming in the right direction but at the moment we’re just missing. It’s certainly nothing to do with the people upstairs – they’ve given me all the backing I could ever wish for. They’ve been absolutely brilliant, looking after me and helping me build this team.”
