John Pemberton is confident Chesterfield would have avoided relegation from the National League had the season not been put in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The campaign has been suspended indefinitely and a decision is yet to be made on how to conclude it.
Caretaker boss Pemberton led the Spireites to five wins in nine to lift them from third bottom and five points from safety to 19th.
And it is this run of form which Pemberton believes would have got them over the finishing line in their final eight matches.
“My personal opinion is that we would not have gone down,” he told the DT.
“I think we had turned a corner.”
