Chesterfield have announced that the Earl of Burlington has accepted an invitation to become the club’s new president.
The Earl’s decision to accept the role maintains the Cavendish family’s long association with the club. His father, the 12th Duke of Devonshire, previously held the role, as did his grandfather, the 11th Duke of Devonshire, who was president for just under half a century.
Commenting on the news, chairman Mike Goodwin said: “We are delighted that Lord Burlington has accepted the board’s invitation to take on the role of president.
“We are very proud of our association with the Cavendish family, which goes back nearly a century, as the ninth Duke of Devonshire watched the Spireites in the 1930s.”
