Clitheroe have announced two new signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline with the additions of former Preston North End goalkeeper Steven James and centre forward Darrhyl Mason from Witton Albion.
Clitheroe boss Simon Garner commented “I am delighted to announce two new signings to strengthen the squad for our final push at maintaining a play off position. With only having a small squad and picking up a couple of injuries and suspensions in the last few weeks, it was vital we look to add not only depth but quality too.
Due to Ben Woodhead’s injury on Saturday and having no keeper cover, we add to act fast to bring in a new Goalkeeper. We have been very fortunate to bring in a keeper of real quality at such short notice.
Steven James joins us with plenty of experience in non-league football already at the tender age of 20. He was a pro at Preston North End until the Summer, and during that time had loan spells at Bamber Bridge, Nantwich Town and Skelmersdale United.
This year Steve has played 13 games for Droylsden. Losing Ben at this point of the season is a big blow and for how long we don’t yet know. Steve has all the qualities to help us maintain our current run of form.
Darrhyl Mason impressed us with his pace and power when he played against us for Witton Albion last week. He adds a different dimension to our squad and gives us another great attacking threat.
Both players will go straight into the squad for the game against Glossop”
