Clitheroe have plans to host an eight-team tournament in April.

The Blues, who were 4th in the Northern Premier League North West Division after nine games, shared plans of the tournament as part of a club statement following yesterday’s announcement of the season being brought to a close.

The club say: “Given the ongoing financial implications around Covid-19 restrictions and the timescales involved, the Blues understand the decision to curtail the season and welcome the clarity it finally brings.

“However, we hope contingency plans will also be put in place in a bid to avoid further voided seasons where a full fixture list potentially can’t be completed.

“In the short-term, it is hoped that football can still be staged at Shawbridge before the summer, with an eight-team invitational tournament being planned to start in April, subject to the necessary approvals.

“Further details will be announced as soon as possible.”
