After Luke Coddington signed for the Spireites in the week, Chesterfield midfielder Sam Wedgbury has claimed that the goalkeeper will be a positive addition to the squad.

“It’s a very good signing for the club,” said Wedgbury.

“I played with him a couple of seasons ago. He’s a good shot stopper and his kicking is good.

“It’s good that we are getting good players on board and we are recruiting really well.”

Coddington and Wedgbury were teammates at fellow National League side Wrexham during the stopper’s loan spell from Northampton in 2017.

The 24-year-old has represented England at various age groups and will be challenging Shwan Jalal for the club’s number one spot.

Wedgbury went onto state that Coddington will fit in well with the current crop of players and stressed how important it is to have good personalities within the playing staff.

“He’ll be good for the dressing room,” he explained. “It sounds like the gaffer is going to recruit good characters as well as good players.”
