Colchester United keeper, Sam Walker, admitted that the U’s were “embarrassed” by Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at the hands of non-league strugglers Oxford City, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Walker had very little to do in the U’s goal, but he was powerless to prevent opposing striker Matt Paterson from heading home a 46th minute winner in a 1-0 success.

“We were embarrassed, because we should absolutely be winning games like that,” rued Walker.

“I know it’s the FA Cup and these things happen, but the performance was not good enough and we did not deserve to win the game based on the performance.

“Fair play to Oxford City – they fully deserved to win and go through to the next round.

“They will be delighted and they will be buzzing, and they fully deserve it today. As for us, we’ve got to take a long, hard look at it, go away and assess it, analyse it.

“An that will be tough viewing for all of us.”
