Midfielder Kristian Holt has agreed in principal to rejoin Atherton Collieries from NWCFL Premier Division side Runcorn Linnets.
Holt, who originally left the club after a two year spell, joined Linnets last August. He went on to play a pivotal role in their campaign and has had a successful pre-season for the team from Runcorn.
Living just two miles from the ground, it means Holt is now back playing for his local side with a group of players who he knows very well. “I’m really looking forward to returning to Colls and excited about the challenge that comes with playing in a higher league. Hopefully I can help the club progress over the course of the season,” he explained.
“I’m reunited with Cleggy and some of my mates who I have worked with since I was 16 years old.”
Clegg added to the sentiments that Holt mentioned and said, “I’ve coached Krissy since he was 16, so nobody needs to tell me what a good player he is. I believe in him more than anybody and I wasn’t surprised to see him doing well at Linnets; I knew he would.”
“He comes back to us 40 games stronger, a year maturer and he is coming back to his home.”
“In an ideal world we didn’t want Krissy to ever leave the club. Looking back it was probably a stubborn move from both us as he wanted to stay and we wanted him to stay. We were both stubborn and he obviously moved on.”
“It’s a clean slate all around and he knows what we want from him. We look forward to seeing all the Holt family back at Colls on a matchday.”
