Nigel Coates, the former Colne manager who passed away last month, will be honoured by the club at a special event on Friday 22nd July.

Colne are hosting a Burnley FC Under 21 squad in a pre-season game, and prior to kick Colne FC logooff the club will be unveiling the newly named Nigel Coates Stand, home to the club’s Red Army.

As reported previously, Nigel had a long association with the North West Counties Football League, both as a player and a manager.

He was a member of the Colne Dynamoes team that won the FA Vase at Wembley in 1988, before taking over as manager of Nelson in the early 1990’s and continued to play for Nelson during much of that decade.

In a ten year spell as manager of Colne, he won the league and cup double and reached the semi-final of the FA Vase in 2003/04. He retired in 2013.

Colne manager Steve Cunningham said: “With Nigel’s recent passing, it’s a chance for the club to honour his 10 years service as manager in the North West Counties League.

“It would be great for all his old foes, supporters and ex-players from around the League to be a part of the evening if they can”.

The game kicks off at 7.45 pm.
