David Cooke has been appointed as new Nantwich Town boss following the departure of Phil Parkinson.

Parkinson left the Dabbers last week to take up the manager’s role at Altrincham.

A club statement said “The volume and standard of applications was very high and we sincerely thank everyone for their interest in the position. It was a difficult decision but one made easier by the strengths of the new management team as a combination, a team we believe will be successful after a comprehensive application and interview process.

The Management and Coaching Team:
David Cooke – Manager
Steve Jones – Assistant Manager and First Team Coach
Danny Griggs – Assistant Manager and First Team Coach
Nigel Deeley – Coach & Coach Mentor

Dave Cooke – Manager
Dave Cooke has experience of Management at various levels of non-league football, including the National Conference where he was part of the Management team that kept Northwich Victoria in the league.

Dave then went on to become Assistant Manager at Shrewsbury Town after they dropped out of the football league and gained promotion back to the league at the first attempt. Dave was also instrumental in giving debuts to the likes of Joe Hart (Man City and England) and Dave Edwards (Wolves). Dave is very well known locally and on the non-league scene and he understands the club and its supporters, the NTFC ethos. He has retained his close contacts with both league and non-league clubs and has spent considerable time scouting players that could perform well at Evo Stik Premier level and was indeed the man that recommended Ibou Touray to the club.

Steve Jones – Assistant Manager and First Team Coach
Steve Jones needs little introduction to Dabbers supporters. He joined Nantwich Town as a player in 2014, after a highly successful career including 29 Northern Ireland full international calls and playing for famous clubs such as Burnley. Whilst continuing his playing career, Steve has obtained his UEFA “A” licence for coaching and is a full time youth coach at Crewe Alexandra.

Steve brings an attractive combination of many years as a professional footballer, now a fully qualified & full time coach yet has been playing the last three years in the Evo-Stik Premier so knows the calibre of players required.

Danny Griggs – Assistant Manager and First Team Coach
Danny is another famous Dabber and part of the famous 2006 FA Vase winning team. Danny had a fantastic playing career and acknowledged as one of the most gifted players in non-league football and has been a big part of Phil Parkinson’s coaching team since his appointment 2 and ½ years ago.

Danny has helped maintain an upward trend in Nantwich’s league position since re-joining the club in a coaching capacity and was keen to remain to continue the good work.

Danny’s knowledge of the league will be invaluable and gives fantastic continuity for the club and its supporters.

Nigel Deeley – Coach / Coach Mentor
Nigel is a fully qualified UEFA “A” coach and has been coaching at a senior level for many years. This includes both coaching players and mentoring coaches.

There can be few more experienced and qualified coaches in non-league football.

Working for the Football Association (FA) in a senior role in talent ID, Nigel also runs the MMU Football Academy.

Nigel will assist with coaching the first team but also support/mentor Steve and Danny in their coaching sessions.

Chairman Tony Davison said “I am pleased Dave has accepted the role of Manager. He has put together a very strong local team which I believe will give us the continuity we were looking for. We were very keen to build on the success of the past two years and I firmly believe that this new team will do just that”
