Gavin Cowan admitted it wasn’t to be for his AFC Telford United charges who fell short at the final FA Trophy hurdle, the Shropshire Star report.

After a calamity opener that saw a defensive error hand Matt Harrold a tap in, the Bucks rallied and Ellis Deeney levelled.

By that time Harrold had already saw red and Telford could see a path back into the game.

But after chances came and went, Josh Coulson headed home 15 minutes from time and the tie was over.

The Bucks have taken on all comers from the National League on the route to the final, but the Wembley dream eventually evaded them.

Cowan expressed his pride in his players after the game, and said: “It wasn’t to be our day today.

“I wouldn’t say it was one step too far though.

“We were magnificent and gave a top account of ourselves today

“We have done the club and the town really, really proud and and I am privileged to be a part of it.”
