Braintree Town manager Danny Cowley feels for his side’s supporters after they made the 600-mile round trip to Barrow, before the game was postponed.

Barrow said the pitch? was “perfectly playable” at 11:00 GMT, but heavy rain had led to the game being called off.

“The people I feel most sorry for are our supporters,” Cowley told BBC Essex.

“We had a group of supporters that left at five in the morning, so for them to arrive at the ground and be told it’s called off is really disappointing.”

Braintree’s squad, four points off the National League play-offs, travelled up to Cumbria on the Friday night, but will almost certainly have to travel back to the north west on a weeknight.

“It’s certainly going to be a challenge, the midweek re-arranged game,” said Cowley. “We’re a part-time squad and lots of our players have full-time jobs, but that’s the nature of the level for us as a football club at the moment.

“We could moan and groan about it but ultimately we’ve just got to get on with it.”
