Dagenham & Redbridge have announced the return of experienced defender Gavin Hoyte and the signing of defender Alex Davey, both on one-year contracts.
28-year-old Hoyte played for The Daggers during the 2012/13 and 2013/2014 seasons, where he made 68 appearances. In the summer of 2014 the defender signed for Gillingham and played under now-Daggers manager Peter Taylor. Hoyte spent last season at National League rivals Eastleigh, where he made a total of 45 appearances.
“I spoke to Peter Taylor not too long ago and he told me what is happening,” Hoyte said. “I know the club is in a bit of a difficult situation at the minute, so it is time for me to step up and bring what I can to the club.”
23-year-old centre-half Davey started his career at Chelsea’s Academy at the age of 10 and progressed through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in 2012. Davey made 7 appearances for Scotland’s U19 international side, scoring once.
Davey has had loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United, Crawley Town and Torquay. In between his spells at Peterborough and Crawley, Davey spent a year with Norwegian side Stabæk.
He joined Boreham Wood in January 2018 from League Two side Cheltenham Town.
When asked his thoughts when joining The Daggers, Davey commented: “I am delighted, I have been speaking to Peter and Terry over the holidays and to be fair what I heard was only getting better and better.
“I’ve had various experiences in and out of the league, so hopefully I can bring a lot to the team and I’ll do everything I can to get us back up there.”
