Dagenham and Redbridge have completed the signing of striker Michael Cheek from National League South side Braintree Town on a two-year deal
The player, who turned down Football League clubs to join The Daggers, is twenty-five years old and has scored plenty of goals in recent years, including being the top scorer at his club in his last four seasons.
In total, he has one-hundred and forty-four goals in his non-league career to date since 2011, which is an average of twenty-four goals per season, and has seventy-seven goals in the top two tiers of non-league football (National League and National League South).
Cheek played for Heybridge Swifts and Stanway Rovers in his early career before he joined Chelmsford City before the 2013/2014 season where he would stay for two seasons.
In his two seasons at the club he scored twelve goals in his first season and twenty-three in his last season with the club, before he made the move to National League side Braintree Town, after being announced as Chelmsford City’s player of the year for 2014/2015.
The goal scoring continued for Michael Cheek at Braintree, getting seventeen goals in the 2015/2016 play-off campaign and twenty-five goals last season, in a year that Braintree Town were relegated from the National League.
As well as his twenty-five goals, last year he also got eight assists in his forty-eight starts, and was the National League’s fourth top goalscorer behind Ricky Miller (Dover Athletic), Christian Doidge (Forest Green Rovers) & Andy Cook (Tranmere Rovers).
The forward was also named in Adam Virgo’s Non-League Team of the Season for the 2016/2017 campaign.
