Dagenham & Redbridge have signed defender Emmanuel Onariase and full-back Nathan Smith.

Onariase has joined the club on loan from Rotherham United on an initial deal until January, subject to EFL approval. Smith joins on a season-long deal.

Manager Peter Taylor said of Onariase: “Emmanuel started at West Ham and went to Brentford, he has his mum and dad who live locally which is good. He is absolutely a good signing for us, he is a centre-half that understands the role of being a number 5 and he has all the tools to be a very good centre-half, so I am very pleased.”

Taylor said of Smith: “Nathan is 31 years of age and has played a lot of football at Yeovil and Chesterfield, he is an excellent professional and we knew that he was available. He has not played a lot of football recently and that is where I have got to be a little bit careful on whether he starts a match, or how long he plays in a match.

“I believe that he is going to be a very good player for us when he is fully fit. Nathan is match fit now, it is just a question of how long he can last in a game.

“At 31 years old he has great experience and knowledge; his voice will be terrific around the place and that is exactly what we need.”
