Dagenham & Redbridge were involved in an eight-goal thriller on Thursday evening as they won by five goals to three against Guiseley AFC in the Vanarama National League.
Goals from debutant Liam Gordon, Fejiri Okenabirhie and a first Daggers hat-trick for Michael Cheek helped the Essex club to three points against already-relegated Guiseley. Cheek broke the deadlock after 16 minutes as he tapped into an open goal after great individual play by Okenabirhie to find the centre forward.
Ten minutes later, the Daggers doubled their lead when Charlee Adams spotted the run of Liam Gordon, who did well to bring the ball down and neatly finish through the legs of the Lions stopper Luke Coddington. The hosts reacted quickly after pulling one back in the 28th minute as Alex Purver’s cross-shot effort found the top left hand corner of the goal beating the Daggers goalkeeper Mark Cousins.
The game was then levelled in the 34th minute when James Roberts was fouled inside the box, the forward stepped up to take the penalty but saw his effort saved by the inform Cousins. However, Ellis Hudson was there to slam the rebound in from close range. Dagenham then regained their lead in the 37th minute as Cheek took advantage of Sean St Ledger’s slip on the edge of the box, but the Lions were quick to react again as Simon Lenighan got a touch on Purver’s cross to level the game once more.
Okenabirhie was then there to slot home a penalty on the stroke of half-time as the Daggers lead by four goals to three.
