Manny Smith believes Andy Davies is the perfect choice to keep Wrexham’s promotion challenge on course.

Dean Keates was installed as Walsall boss last Friday and Davies, his right-hand man, has been appointed Reds manager until the end of the season. Wrexham have been among the pacesetters for the majority of the season and with Davies playing his part in the push for a top-seven finish, Smith insists it was the obvious choice.

“I think highly of Andy,” said Smith. “I think he does as much work as the gaffer did and he gets maximum respect from all the lads.

“Nothing really changes and everything stays the same. It will be good for the boys because we have spent most of the season in the play-offs battling away so everyone knows what is at stake.

“Andy has been part of that, he has been very good for us so long may it continue.”
