Mark Goldberg has stepped aside as manager of Welling United and appointed former Wings boss Jamie Day as the the new manager.

Goldberg has also added another former Welling manager to the club’s staff in appointing Adrian Pennock as consultant.

Goldberg said: “After due consideration, I have decided to step aside from first-team management duties as I have recognised that it is Wellingtoo ambitious of me to be effective as both a football club manager and an owner whilst running alongside other business interests.

“Jamie Day has agreed to step up as first-team manager alongside Ady Pennock, who has also agreed to join the club as a consultant to assist us during this transitional period. I will still work closely to support both Jamie and Ady and Harry Wheeler.

“I feel privileged to have had more than a decade in non-League football management, from youth football development through to first-team, at every level from Ryman through to National League and to have been involved in a number of great cup runs. Now I have to concentrate on supporting my management team in the way others have supported me in the past and to ensure that we get through this difficult period and avoid relegation before moving forward together.”

Day (pictured) will be well-known to Wings fans, having led the Wings to the Conference South title in 2012/13 having been beaten in the play-off final the previous season.

Day was also a fans` favourite as a player where he led by example, being a committed central midfielder.

Day’s teams are known for their work rate and commitment to the club.

Pennock was Day’s manager at Welling in his playing career.

Pennock joined the Wings in 2005 and led them until he left to run Stoke City’s academy after the 2006/07 season.

Pennock then went on to become first-team coach at Stoke City.

Day and Pennock successfully joined forces again when Pennock was manager at Forest Green Rovers.

Pennock took the Gloucestershire club to the higher reaches of the National League before he was sensationally sacked before the play-off semi-final last season.
