Torquay United head coach Gary Owers has brought a second new signing, young defender George Essuman, into the club.

The Gulls’ boss has recruited former Dover Athletic centre-back Essuman, 21, to join new winger Bobson Bawling. It means that United now have six senior players signed on – Jamie Reid, Jakub Sokolik, Brett Williams are the other three – with Owers predicting more arrivals in the near future.

Essuman signed for Dover in March 2017 and has since played for Margate on loan. He was with Norwich City, West Ham United and Sheffield Wednesday for spells during his youth career, before appearing for a number of amateur clubs in the South-East.

Owers said: “He is a big, strong athletic defender who can also play as a holding midfielder. He is someone who I think we can improve. He has a lot of potential.”
