Chesterfield boss Martin Allen has confirmed the club will not be signing Derby County youngster Lewis Walker on loan this summer.

The 19-year-old had been on trial with the Spireites during pre-season.

Walker got his name on the score sheet in Chesterfield’s pre-season match against Nuneaton last Saturday, where they ran out 5-0 winners.

However, Allen has now ruled out any deal for the teenage striker.

“Young Walker, I thought he did extremely well on Saturday (at Nuneaton) but at the moment I just can’t bring him in,” Allen told the Derbyshire Times .

“He’s a good player, he’s going to be a very good player.

“I think with hard work and development programme, with upper body strengthening, he’s certainly got something.

“He had a great attitude and desire but at the moment it wasn’t right for us to bring him in.”
