Moussa Diarra has followed fellow Frenchman Bedsente Gomis in leaving Barrow AFC – but full-back Dan Jones is set to stay.

The Bluebirds had offered Diarra a new deal at Holker Street when his two-year contract came to and end following the conclusion of last season.

However, new manager Ian Evatt revealed that the towering 28-year-old central defender had decided to end his association with AFC and go elsewhere.

The news of his departure comes in the same week that transfer-listed central midfielder Gomis joined Barrow’s National League rivals Dover Athletic.

“The fact was that Gomis wanted to leave and the fact is that Moussa Diarra wanted to leave,” said Evatt. “We made an offer to Moussa that he didn’t want to take up, and Bedsente wanted to leave as well, because he wasn’t happy with how things went last season – that’s his choice, his prerogative.”
