Sutton United go into Tuesday’s clash with basement boys Dover Athletic with renewed confidence following Saturday’s impressive 3-0 thumping of Wrexham, report the Richmond & Twickenham Times.

United showed they had more fire in their bellies than the high flying Dragons as goals from Jamie Collins, Kieron Cadogan and Craig Eastmond helped banish memories of last week’s 4-0 home battering by Boreham Wood.

The U’s were already two goals ahead when Wrexham’s Luke Summerfield was sent off just before half-time and had it not been for some inspired goalkeeping by Rob Lainton the margin of victory could have been greater.

Manager Paul Doswell described last Tuesday’s performance as “shambolic” but was delighted by his team’s ruthless response.

“The manner of the performance on Tuesday night struck me as unacceptable,” he told SUFCtv.

“Today was a brilliant game for us. They [Wrexham] had only lost one game all season and were flying.

“They’ve just beaten Ebbsfleet 4-1 and that’s the nature of football. We get beat 4-0 on Tuesday and we come back and win 3-0. It could have been five or six.”
