Despite an encouraging performances by Basford United’s two new strikers it was not enough as Basford went down 1-2 against Chasetown at Greenwich Avenue.

Martin Carruthers and Mark Clifford were delighted to clinch the signings of the two basford unitedstrikers this weekend, with Greg Simmonds notching a debut goal and Gary Ricketts demonstrating a robust and powerful presence to spearhead the United attack.

Secured from Long Eaton but a folk hero at Ilkeston FC Ricketts is just the type of experienced striker that can kick start United’s season.

Simmonds signed from Kimberley MW but despite an injury ravaged last three seasons he demonstrated his eye for goal with a fine finish even though this was a mere consolation.

Simmonds also netted a great finish only for it to be chalked off via a very close call offside decision.

Carruthers expects further signings as Basford seek that winning formula to kick start the campaign.
