Hampton and Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson can’t quite celebrate the Ryman Premier League title just yet but that didn’t stop him being thrilled with his side on Saturday.
The Beavers kept up their end of the bargain with a 3-0 victory at Grays Athletic.
That may have been enough but Bognor – now the only side who can’t prevent a party at the Beveree – did what they had to as well with a solid 2-0 win at Leiston.
It means a point is still needed – although if the Rocks fail to beat Brentwood at home in midweek then Hampton will be crowned champions without playing.
Dowson said: “We did our part but results elsewhere means we are still waiting!
“We should have scored a lot more than we did on Saturday but I can’t criticise our forwards at all – we have scored 105 goals this season which is remarkable whatever way you look at it.
“We know what we have to do on Saturday against Enfield. Itis in our own hands so we look forward to it – you have to have that approach.
“A point will do but everyone is incredibly motivated to go and win the match and of course the league.
“I have not had one sleepless night in this promotion race so far and that won’t start now. I’m already looking forward to it as are the players.
“It is about preparing in the right way this week and doing everything we can to get in right next Saturday.”
