Cefn Druids boss Huw Griffiths has strengthened his squad with the capture of former Wrexham left-back Neil Ashton.

The 32 year old boasts a wealth of experience, having played in the Football League and Conference with Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Macclesfield Town, Chester City, Wrexham and last year with Barrow.

His longest spell was with Wrexham where he played over 200 games in the first team between 2010 and 2015 wher he enjoyed some notable highs and lows. In March 2013, the Liverpudlian picked up his first career honour by winning the FA Trophy with Wrexham and despite playing in every round, he cruelly missed the final at Wembley due to injury. However, a month and a half later he did manage to play at Wembley for Wrexham but the Dragons lost 2-0 to Newport County in the Conference play-off Final.

Ashton was released by Wrexham in May 2015 and has since played for Barrow.

Chairman of the Druids Board, John Hughes was delighted to announce the signing and told the club’s website;

“We are thrilled that Neil has decided to join Druids this season, we know he has been in high demand, with other clubs chasing him – he will be a great addition, bringing both knowledge and experience to The Rock – I wish him well with the season ahead!”
