Dunston UTS’ headline-making Emirates FA Cup run may have come to an end at the weekend, but the club made history in the process.
The Ebac Northern League Division 1 side drew near neighbours Gateshead after knocking out Vanarama National League North side Chester FC in the third qualifying round. Although they were beaten 4-0 at home to Steve Watson’s National League side, Dunston set a new club attendance record.
The previous record figure for a home game stood at 1,550, but Saturday’s crowd of 2,500 at the UTS Stadium put that firmly in the shade.
The game had been broadcast via the BBC’s website and red button feature.
