It will be just a couple hours shy of 21 days since Torquay United last kicked a ball in anger when they take on FC Halifax Town at Plainmoor on Saturday afternoon.

But a free week, followed by last weekend’s postponement of the Vanarama National League game at Wrexham, has at least given manager Gary Johnson some time to assess his squad and put it through what he has called a ‘mini pre-season’ – and recently sidelined pair Ben Wynter and Bristol City loanee Robbie Cundy are the latest two to put themselves back into contention following injuries.

That leaves just long-term absentees Liam Davis and Matt Buse, with Frank Vincent recuperating back at parent club Bournemouth following the suspension of his loan deal.

After, at times, seeing a full team of injured players sitting out sessions, and not being available on matchdays, that must be a huge relief for the boss.
