Impressive braces from Kieffer Moore and Fabien Robert helped Forest Green Rovers to a comfortable victory over Aldershot on Tuesday night.
Mark Cooper’s charges swept aside a Shots side who heading into the clash possessed the best defensive record in the division, and who were on an eight match unbeaten run.
Moore scored FGR’s second and fourth goals in a brilliant first half that blew former Football League outfit Aldershot away.
“I’ve waited my time to get back in the side and I took it well, getting two in the first half,” Moore said. “I’m very chuffed with that.
“My goals tonight prove that if the gaffer shows the faith in me I can get the goals. I’ve had four starts this season and I’ve got four goals. It just shows I’m here to score goals and hopefully win the league.
“It’s an achievement for me and it’s great for my confidence. I’m definitely progressing under this new manager. It’s a great system and it opens up opportunities for me to get in those position and tuck them away like I did.
“We need to kick on from here. We’ve gone top of the league now and we need to hold onto that, keep composed like we did today, and hold on for the win every game.”
Midfield man, Fabien Robert, set the tone for the night with his brace and an assist in the Frenchman’s best performance for Rovers to date.
He said: “I think we started the game very well at a good tempo. We scored twice in the first 10 minutes and it was fully deserved. So it was a good night.
“Now I’m fit and I think I can help the team every week. The manager knew my quality but the supporters didn’t know how good I can be at the moment.
“If we play like we did in the first half, I think we will win the league. In the second half, it got a bit sloppy, the game was dead so it was quite difficult to push on and score more goals.
“We kept a clean sheet and we have to continue like this so we can win the league.”
