Nick Freeman and Miles Smith have become the latest players to leave Histon ahead of their trip to Evo-Stik League Southern, Premier Division leaders Redditch United tomorrow.
Freeman and Smith have both been regulars for the Stutes this season, with the former scoring the consolation penalty in last weekend’s defeat to fellow strugglers Frome Town.
Manager Steve Fallon understood why the pair had decided to move on from the club and will again be looking to more of Histon’s scholars to fill the void.
“That’s how it has got to be,” said Fallon.
“There is only a week until the transfer deadline, so we’ll have to see if anyone else decides to leave.
“We’ve got to try to win as many games as we can and get as many points as we can.
“We’ll go to Redditch and try our best to win, and that’s all we can do.”
Fallon is optimistic Jack Uttridge could be available to take the spot vacated by Smith in the centre of defence when Histon face Redditch.
Uttridge has been struggling with a broken wrist sustained in the defeat away to Hitchin Town, although the cast he had been in was due to come off this week.
Should he be able to play, it would provide a big boost for the side as they aim to cause a shock against the table toppers.
“Jack has got a lot of experience and even though he’s in his early 20s, he’s one of our senior players,” said Fallon.
“We need as many of the experienced players available as possible to help our scholars out.”
Frome Town’s midweek win over St Neots means Histon are now six points adrift of safety with the side above them still having games in hand.
But Fallon remains hopeful they can claw their way out of trouble in the remaining seven games.
“Fair play to Frome, they’ve done well, but we can still drag one or two other teams into it,” said Fallon.
“We’ve got two games coming up over Easter as well and if you can get results in those then things can change pretty rapidly.”
