Eastleigh have announced the loan signing of forward Marcus Barnes from Southampton.
The young forward joins on loan until January from the well-respected Southampton academy, described as being tall but mobile and with bags of promise.
Barnes, 22, joins the Spitfires just days after netting his first goal of the season for Saints’ Premier League 2 side in their defeat to Everton.
Manager Ben Strevens said: “In Marcus we have another option going forward which provides something different. He’s tall and direct, and we hope he can work well up top with our other attackers.”
The forward, who suffered a slight injury setback last season, spoke to Southampton FC’s media on keeping his goalscoring habits going.
Barnes said: “There’s nothing better for me than scoring goals, and I just want to continue doing that in every game, but the main priority is winning.
“I don’t think any goal feels different – whenever I score it’s the best feeling, I can’t really describe how it is. Every game I go into, I just want to score as many goals as I can.”
